Thoughts of a lone Tenno

Guardians of the forest

This night was bathed in blood.

01

For days now, we have collected plants, patiently scanning them to find those who would be best suited to halt the grineer madness. Vay Hek looks more like he wants to destroy the forest than building something afterwards. Be it by moonlight or sunlight, we were there, gathering rare flowers and breeding them into antitoxins. We tried them in the Cicero injectors and they worked. Little by little, we learned which plants would be the more effective to stop the destructive grineer compulsion.

They did not remain idle while we searched. They tried to stop us. Fools. Those who met our path when we were gathering plants and intel were barely conscious of what hit them. What they did when we tried our antitoxins is another tale, though. They came and swarmed like the Infested endless hordes, and Vay Hek was screaming like a hysteric child being refused what he wanted. The first waves they send were not even worthy of a decent warm up, but the more powerful our antitoxins became, the more troops tried to stop us and the strongest they were.

Then, one night, we were ready. We were an army of four, and I shall not forget their names. I wore the skin of Nyx. Fraita was honing Mag, Jonatforsl was sheltered by the Rhino and  Angrygosh had the face of the Trinity. High in the skies, looking at the Earth from orbit, we talked. What to take with us, which warframe we would be wearing. We did not took this lightly. We knew the Grineer would do anything to stop us, yet were uncertain of the extent of the "anything".

When the time came, our mantis ships took us to the forest. A Cicero injector was nearby. We knew it. Guided by the Lotus intel, we ran to the poison machine. The Grineer guarding the place were taken by surprise. No threat to us. The place will not be easy to defend. Too many ways to get in, too many places to hide outside, and the moon was of little help to clear away the darkness, but we had no choice. No surrender, no retreat. We injected the antitoxins and waited.

Vay Hek started to scream as the first shock troops were wiped out. We were carefull not to squander the use of our abilities. We didn't know what would be coming before we'd be done, and didn't want to waste our efforts by misplaced pride. Jonatforsl and I were blowing the place apart. His Penta and my Ogris opened gates of explosive death. The Grineer were falling by the tens, but they kept coming. Slowly, our combined antitoxins were doing its work.

They kept coming from all directions. We were all running form one point to another, shooting and slashing anything that came in range. When I was taking the catwalk surrounding the building, I always shot rockets at the entrance of a distant cave. I couldn't see in the dark and didn't bother wondering if they were actual troops coming out from there. But most of the time, the explosion came with Grineer agony. Heavy gunners  climbed a little rocky hill to have a clear shot on us. Easy target for rockets, and all those who managed to break our perimeter were turned to pieces by the sword and the gun. Fraita crushed them with the power of the Mag, and Jonatfrosl sent flying all that came near him. His Rhino was a moving iron moutain, and no one passed him alive. The Grinner thought they were outflanking us. They were only hasting their death.

I lost count of the ones I manipulated to turn against one another. Incoming heavy gunners started to attack their own platoon, the ally became foe and the ensued chaos bought us the precious seconds we needed to slaughter them all. When it was not enough, I ran and jumped right in the middle of their decadent crowd and used my ultimate ability. They all opened fire on my psychic shield, as I was standing in mid-air. All of them were doomed, for we are Tenno, tireless and relentless.

cleared

I don't know how long it lasted. The day was barely rising when we were finished, but it felt like an eternity. The waters of the Cicero injector turned blue, and we knew the victory was ours. Vay Hek desperate screams were music to our ears. There was nothing left to do here. We ran to extraction and flew to the skies; until the forest needs us again.

03

When we went back to the void between worlds and the coldness of space, I was quite proud and satisfied with our deed. But then, I've heard of Tenno who completely cleared an injector on their own, or who poured in enough antitoxin to clear four times the amount we did. Those tales of the true heroes remind me of modesty. There will always be stronger Tenno out there. They are the ones to be praised; we are mere soldiers and thus must show humility in front of our accomplishments.

Thoughts of a lone Tenno
  • Here are the thoughts of a lone tenno, one among the others. The intent is a little storytelling on a weekly basis in the Warframe universe. Contributions are welcome in the comments, but censorship will meet useless stuff like a Stalker strike.
